I just subtely asked and she said her favorite stuff is photography, using colored pencils, and oil painting.

Well the two above mentioned brands are my favorite oil paints, and of course Prismacolor make excellent colored pencils. I don't know much of anything about photography, unfortunately. (I also don't really know brush brands cause I just buy whatever is on sale for those... If you want to get her brushes though, a nice thing people might not think of could be some brush cleaner to go along with it?)
