Some of us are more upset by his comment about Widow's prosthetic leg making her unworthy of respect. I have both visible and invisible disabilities, and walk with a cane due to an injury that seriously damaged my thoracic spine. It took a long, long time even prior to that accident to see myself as better than human Kleenex, to be jizzed in and thrown away, because of a congenital illness. How many people, girls, women, boys, men, and intersex heard Renner and felt yet another piece of justification for dehumanizing treatment fall into place?

I know he was talking about a fictional character, but he was also talking about modern mythology. Black Widow is, in a way, the patron goddess of girls who've been kicked in the teeth over and over, injured and sickened and maddened and hurt, and come out standing. In one sentence, he dismissed every piece of humanity the character has. And with it, every bit of strength and self we flesh-and-blood women and girls forged from situations most people can never imagine.

Wait, what? I haven't heard about this. Do you have a link? (I haven't seen AOU but I don't mind spoilers; is this something revealed in AOU or something that happens to her during the movie?)

No, she doesn't get a prosthetic leg in AoU. Must be some speculation?

Renner made a joke about her having a prosthetic leg, that's it.
