weird health question

(Anonymous) 2015-05-22 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
idk how to even describe this but i figured maybe one of y'all would be able to shed some light on what my body is doing.

first of all, i've been gassy as hell the past couple of days. ive also been sick with what i thought was a cold (got it from bf and he's since recovered, and he didn't have the gas symptom). i don't think the gas is related to the cold, but the past few days i've come down with sudden bouts of cramps (like diarrhea cramps) but no runny poops. just gas.

today my belly looked uncharacteristically thin. normally i can push it out if i breathe in, but i literally am unable to make it do that right now. what i CAN do is suck it in, terrifyingly so. like WAY more than usual. it's scary.

so like, what? what is this thing that my body is doing? usually i do look thinner when i wake up (i think i just get water weight by the end of the day) but i look even thinner than i do in the mornings. am i ok? am i dying?

When I experienced symptoms like this and brought it up during a doctor's appointment, they initially said I had IBS but still ordered a blood test. That test showed an H. Pylori infection, which can trigger cramps painful enough to hinder your appetite and thus affect your weight. I'd log your food and stressors (even retroactively) and show it to a doctor. Since many gastro ailments share common symptoms, testing will be your best course of action to determine what exactly is happening.

I lose weight whenever I get a cold, I think just because food is less appetising and my body has to work harder to get rid of nasty things. You could be a bit dehydrated as well.

As for the gut thing, it could be that your body isn't working like it should to keep all your natural gut flora in balance. It might also be a reaction to something you've taken for your cold, or a food you've been eating a lot of because you've been sick.
You might just be lucky enough to have also picked up another bug at the same time.

If you're having a lot of pain and your abdomen is rigid or your stool is quite dark in colour, then you need to have a chat to your doctor pronto.

Hope you feel better soon anon.
