A part of my is laughing at people getting baited at this. The other is face palming at all the OTT knee jerk reactions at cheating, like it's the worst thing ever.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-22 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It kind of is, though? I mean okay, no, in terms of "worst thing you could possibly do" cheating is probably on the low end of the scale compared to, say, murder, or raping someone, or buying a Chris Brown album, but let's be real here, people don't like having their hearts played with. Cheating in a monogamous relationship (and most relationships are monogamous) is seen as a breach of trust and is a serious cultural taboo in Western society. So yeah, it's definitely a dick move no matter how you slice it.

DA

Cheating, in today's world, also puts the monogamous partner at risk for all kinds of diseases. Several of them deadly. I.e., Hep C, AIDS, and even other STIs can have longterm effects, if they're not treated right away, because the monogamous partner didn't know the cheater picked it up.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
OH NO, NOT THE AIDS!

As if you really care about any of the health risk. Ya'll just mad at hell at cheaters.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
na

I sure as hell care but I say this as someone who actually did contract an STD because of a cheating partner (just syphilis and I caught it early, so it could have been a lot worse but still...not exactly a pleasant experience)

The cheater could just as easily be having safe sex. Cheating does not necessarily mean spreading STDs. That's quite an assumption you're making there.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Cheating is nothing like murder or rape. 50% of men and women in monogamous relationships cheat at some point in their life. It's a completely typical human behaviour.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
It's a completely typical human behaviour.

If you're looking at it from a purely statistical point of view, you could pretty much say the same about murder or rape.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Statistics, please. I've Googled, but thus far I haven't found your 50% numbers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infidelity

Or is this one of the 97.3% of statistics that are made up on the spot to support your argument?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*completely typical piece of shit behavior

fixed

(Anonymous) 2015-05-22 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It goes to show just how well most folks lives are going that the worst thing in it that they can get worked up over is the thought of two grown ass adults having consenting sex without another person knowing about it.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-22 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
no one here is even saying that cheating is the worst thing ever though. I can think of a hundred things that are worse than cheating, but the secret isn't about any of them so obviously we can only react to the issue of cheating. if the op had been like "Ever since I accepted my Slytherin identity, I've run over a dozen pedestrians, robbed a bunch of banks, eaten puppies in front of children, and burned down several orphanages. And oh yeah, I also banged a married guy and ended up with a promotion" and people only focused on the cheating part, then you would probably have a point.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
They might as well be saying it because it shows in people over the top responses. Every time the issue of cheating, or a secret of someone who has cheated shows up here and people bring it up, people come out with there pitchforks ready for adulterer hunt and burning. It's kind of stupid how butthurt people get over it.

Cheating is a terrible thing to do. It is a breach of trust and a promise, because when you get married, you are promising to be faithful to that person (and if you have an open marriage, there are going to be rules that you set re: partners and what is acceptable).

There is no excuse for cheating. If you're not happy in a relationship and you're not willing to work on things, you owe it to the other person to end it rather than go behind their back and break their trust.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah in a perfect world everyone would be adults. But this is reality where people are messy, imperfect, and we all fuck up.

Could someone please help OP off the cross these anti-adulterer's have hung them on? And can we just let OP live?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
It would be one thing if they actually felt guilty about it, but they flat out said that they don't and it's implied that they're using their supposed Slytherin status as a way to justify other unsavory actions aside from just sleeping with a married person. So...yeah, I don't think OP deserves much understanding

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for being a beacon of rationality in this thread, anon. The adultery witch hunt here is getting out of hand.

that's completely compatible with adultery being morally wrong

I agree that people are messy and imperfect and everyone fucks up. I also think that cheating is, unambiguously, an example of fucking up, because it is morally wrong. And one should avoid it if at all possible.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Or you could quit making them out to be some kind of martyr for simply being called out on a shitty action. Because FSM forbid anyone should have any obligation to keep promises (him) or think about other people for a second (OP).

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
So asshurt because people don't approve of your cheating ass :(

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
but cheating is wrong tho

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Did anyone actually claim cheating was the worst thing ever, or did they indicate it was a crappy thing to do? I think it's the latter, and you're exaggerating because it's the only way your point sounds remotely valid.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
This. Reverse pearl clutching. And someone feels guilty.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
ikr. So pathetic and childish.
