Re: Is 'Call out culture' a good thing or a bad thing?

It would be good if we didn't have social media or if it evolved before social media was a thing so safeguards would have been built into social media from the get-go because the people who built SM would be considering that it is a thing. De facto, at this moment in time, it doesn't work in a good way. When it does work correctly, it's mostly lucky or accidental, like getting rid of one invasive species by blowtorching every plant that looks even slightly similar and calling it a success when one out of 100 of those plants turn out to be a specimen of that invasive species.

Also, it's not really even about getting rid of that invasive species, poorly or not, it's about having fun torching things with a blowtorch and having a lame excuse to justify it and feel better about yourself, the effects on the people who get called out, deserved or not, are pretty incidental.
