I honestly just can't agree with that.

With any luck (and i know the won't see it that way at the time) they will be bad at killing themselves, or not find the means to do so.The vast majority of first-time suicide attempts fail. At the very least, if buys time for those that CAN get better.

I can sort of understand for people who might have tried combating depression for 10, 20 and don't see it getting better - because then it is tantamount to a chronic illness.

But someone who's had it for months, or one or two years? And hits rock bottom for a few months?

No, I feel that would be a terrible idea.

Then you are just inflicting pain on an already vulnerable person, including possible horrific scarring and the possibility of them also traumatizing someone else because they could not get the help they wanted because you felt they should want something else. It might be hard, but those people who yearn so desperately to leave this world behind are the people who need it more than the terminally ill ones. Those are the ones you hurt the most by denying them it in the hope they magically get better. Depression rarely goes away.

Honestly, at this point I feel you're

a)just talking out of your ass

b)using anecdotal evidence, either about yourself or someone you knew.

If it's a) - please just stop, you're REALLY not helping. If it's b) Realize that there are other people whose experiences are vastly different, and who are glad they did not kill themselves at their lowest.

(And for the record...I'd rather be scarred than dead, personally...which, oh, hey, I am).

And I never said that people magically get better...it's a process, often long, hard and unpleasant. But in hindsight, many people would suffer through say, 3 awful years if the knew they had 10 good years coming after that.

I'd rather be dead than alive.

I assure you, my current life has no quality to it. Why should I not be able to choose to end it comfortably?

Because your judgement might be severely impaired by your current mental state.

And, I say might, because obviously I do not know you, I do not know your diagnosis, I am not a doctor, nor do I know the duration of your illness, nor the prognosis.

However, you did mention depression, and depression is a an affliction that specifically leads to a mental state where you might want to kill yourself . i do not know how much more clearly I can put that.
