Re: Inappropriate questions
The thing is, the only reason I even know this is because my Chinese-Malaysian friends (now moved to Australia, but grew up in Msia) were willing to share things about their cultural practices and openly discuss problems with government and homophobia and the like.
It's kind of tough, but the only way you really get meaningful discourse or meet like-minded people is by broaching those subjects. I mean... there are ways to do it delicately, but it's still kind of a necessary thing if we're going to have the kind of global, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural society that a lot of places in the world are evolving towards.
