He's reeled in his foot fetish thing though. That is something. That was really noticeable in the first Avengers movie, and got a lot of comment, with Pepper's scenes intro-ing Tony and Black Widow's introduction scenes leaving a number of people feeling more than a little creeped out. That he's reeled that back is good.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I have absolutely never noticed any feet in either Avengers movie whatsoever. I mean...people have feet but not noticeably??

Pretty sure Pepper is barefoot a lot specifically because she's taller than RDJ more than anything.

Based on screen time in IM, IM2, The Avengers, and IM3, Pepper wears her signature high heels more than half the time, so I'm not sure I'd characterize her as being barefoot "a lot." And it's not because she's taller than RDJ. Just look at some of the behind the scenes footage from any of the films sometime. Usually they end up putting RDJ in heels (Iron Man 2) or put him on a box (Iron Man 3) to even up his height with his costars.

But that's not how Hollywood generally handles tall actress vs. short actor, so it's not a given that Pepper needs to be barefoot because RDJ is short. What they'd usually do is not show the feet at all + some combination of short actor in lifts, or standing on a box while the actress is standing in a trench or in flats, or by having scenes where people are sitting down.

They both have foot fetishes. I actually find QT's less annoying because he makes no attempt to disguise it as anything other than a foot fetish. Some people like feet, I guess.

There are a couple of slightly drawn out scenes where the camera is focused on feet. Pepper in the apartment with Tony, she's barefoot and when she walks over to the elevator and the camera is at foot level, which I really noticed when I watched it the first time. And Natasha's opening scene had a couple of shots, but I don't think it was that noticeable. I feel like I'm forgetting something though.

You know who picks up on it? People who have a weird psychological thing about feet, or have been encouraged to think the filmmaker has a weird thing about feet. The rest of us tend to forget about it, because it's a very minor stylistic touch at the beginning of a larger movie, and we don't care.

This is like someone objecting to Buffy because, "bleached hair/short girls/nerdy British stereotypes are gross."

Bare feet are a motif Whedon's used a handful of times. But some weirdos have to make a big case out of it.

yeah, I've watched numerous Joss Whedon productions and I honestly never even picked up the feet thing until someone pointed it out. even if he does have some kind of hankering for it, it seems relatively harmless as far as things like that go. I don't really understand why it's a big deal to people

Dialing back your obvious foot fetish only after lots of people have noticed it and pointed it out isn't really a huge accomplishment, though. That's like congratulating someone because they've managed to cut back on public urination.
