Any fellow social cleaners here?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I've come to the conclusion that I'm a social cleaner. I just can't get my act together and actually do housework when I'm on my own. Add someone to keep me company, though - instant energy to something around the apartment! ( Just company, mind, I'd like to do the chores myself.)

Am I alone in this or are there others who share my preference?

I do not share your preferences at all. If I'm cleaning get out of my way and let me do it properly because your efforts are not going to help. However, my usual method of shaming room mates into cleaning would be to casually start cleaning something in front of them so they felt obligated to not stand there being a useless tool.

It worked every time.

I'd happily let you clean.

I'd charge reasonable rates. I used to be a professional housekeeper.

This is me!

I really have to force myself to keep it fairly clean, often failing to that as well. And other things like changing light bulbs (I've had one working light bulb in my living room for close to a month now) But the second I know I'll get guest I get all CLEAN ALL THE THINGS!!

I clean whether anyone is going to be over or not, though not necessarily as much as I should. (The house needs a good dusting...and I have some clutter to tackle.)

But things like vacuuming, laundry, trash, dishes, etc, I can't stand for those to go undone; I'll do them even if there's no one to help.

I used to be this but now that I have a house I clean regularly. Also my husband does none of the cleaning so it pretty much falls on me. Usually if he sees me cleaning he goes and does the yard work, which is fine by me. My kitchen is cleaned every day and I pick up little things. I clean the whole house once a week dusting, vacuuming, and usually picking one room to "deep" clean. It usually takes me 2-2 1/2 hours to clean everything on the day I clean the whole house. I've just found that I'm more consistent with my cleaning when I have a set time and schedule to clean things. Obviously it doesn't always happen. This week it didn't because the day I normally clean I was out of town. I'll probably do it tomorrow along with laundry since tomorrow is laundry day.
