It's all political voting anyway. I swear you could probably write a thesis on how Eurovision accurately represents European nation relationships.

You're joking, but several academic papers have in fact been published on the subject.

(I had a college friend who was studying ethnomiusicology and this is one of the things that she was interested in)

It's not like that makes it easier to predict honestly. I mean Sweden is in the Scandivian voting block, Russia has a shitload of emigrated Russians who vote and Australia has the novelty value.

General rules of thumb:

Scandinavian countries will always give each other points
All ex-USSR countries or other neighbours will give big points to Russia
France and the UK never give each other points
UK and Ireland always give each other points

Any big world even where one country is out of favour will usually reduce a country's overall score.

Personally, I liked Belgium. At least it wasn't another ballad.
But Italy or Sweden are more likely.
Although the cheer for Italy might have been relieve that it's over...
