(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)...you are kidding, right? 99% of "theology training" is "This is our brand, this is the party line, this is the only text/verse/part of the book that you use, this is what you do/say when the sheep get out of line, and if you depart from/don't do or say any of this yourself, YOU are out of line, and prepare to meet your Maker."
...the other .0001% is "Stand up there and say whatever you want, we don't even care."
Hard to find any religion/church that's in the middle of those two extremes, IME. Especially with the wide anti-science culture in most religions, these days, since psychology is (somewhat) a science now, after all.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-24 01:13 am (UTC)(link)College theology courses, at actual accredited colleges, sure. Theology training, i.e. what the church in question dumps its wannabes into, usually by way of their very own unaccredited "bible college," and/or a denominational "university" (which may or may not be accredited, but is the worst for brainwashing their students with "the party line" is different altogether.
Source: I grew up in a formerly Bible-believing church that was taken over by people (re-)"educated" at the latter type of "university," and the preaching went from solidly scripture-based to hate-filled, war-mongering, self-help garbage.
