I'm in a similar position. I needed a long break from fandom and writing in general because there was a lot of stressful personal stuff going on in my life. I want to finish my fic. I intend to finish my fic. But I have to say, comments like the other anon who thinks people like me are stringing [them] along" or not being "upfront" about my real intentions make me feel tired and annoyed.

I don't need fans who refuse to understand I'm not a fanfic machine. I'm a person, just like them. I'm sure there are things they'd like to do that don't always get done for Reasons, and it's really frustrating that they don't cut other people some slack. It's just fanfiction, ffs.

Forget about being unable to sing. It's not being pretty in this world that they give you shit for.

I've been making 5-7 a week for a while now.

IDK. Sometimes FS is a nasty place to be. The OP isn't reacting well, but....

Being accused of lying isn't shitting all over someone?

I've been hesitant to play the "animal" races, just for aesthetic reasons, but this time I'm going Khajit! Though the Argonian water breathing ability is pretty tempting, too. I do remember spamming the enchanting/smithing stuff for experience and money, I'll remember to stick some points there.

As for mods, I do have quite a few in my Nexus Mod Manager, but I try not to do any of them that are "cheating". Most of them are aesthetic, technical, or just time saving. I did make my horse Frost immortal though because I was tired of him charging at dragons and dying. lol The carryweight mod sounds good, it's annoying to only be able to grab a few armors and heavy weapons before you reach capacity.

Come on, I was 5 for fuck's sake. I was being bullied by my older sister because I wanted to be a singer and couldn't sing, and then we watched Cinderella and it made me believe there was something wrong with me. The ugly sisters were terrifying, and my tiny little five year old brain connected not being pretty and not being able to sing with being fundamentally bad.

I made this secret because it was something I only remembered when I rewatched Cinderella the other day. It made me realise that it had quite a significant impact on me, so I made this secret. Was hoping for maybe some discussion about Disney Princesses.

People are going to disagree with you. People are going to dislike you. People are going to be interested in traits, characteristics, and physical features that you don't have. At some point, you're going to have to stop blaming them for that (cuz, well, they have the right not to like you or things about you) and figure out how to be secure enough in yourself that it doesn't matter anymore.

You can keep running, but eventually you're gonna run out of road.

This is true. It's gotta have something just to give it context or recognizability, if nothing else.

I typically create two characters, one that's a goody two shoes and another who is more concerned with their own interests. With these games there's so much to do though, that a lot of times I just end up wandering aimlessly, clearing areas and racking up cash. I have so much gold and nothing to do with it. (Well, except buy more houses I don't need, or equipment I probably won't use.)

Right now I've maxed out most of my main abilities (I started with a weapon and shield, then switched to bow which is almost maxed out, now I'm working on two handed weapons), but I don't want to reset them because it takes so damn long. I should've reset my smiting a long time ago but I'm lazy and don't want to have to level it up again.

The last time I played I mostly finished my house, so other than decorating the inside everything is done. I'm bored with that though, so next time I play I'm just going to proceed with the story; I've almost completely ignored it and would actually like to know what the hell happens, lol.

Too true.

Re: Favorite pet?

Ferrets have been domesticated for far less time than cats, and domesticated cats are still quite a considerable danger to the bird population. I don't see any reason why a domesticated ferret would only survive three hours. That seems like a fairly arbitrary length of time. What do you imagine will happen to it after three hours?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-24 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's as complete as yours, and I only have moods for it every once in a while, but there are times when yes, all I want from a fic is that sense of "There is one safe place in all of hell, and that safe space is you". I like it with plot and characterisation, but yeah, shipping needn't apply, sometimes I don't want to have to pay for that sense of safety with romance/sex, I just want to feel like it can happen just to happen.

People can't be skeptical of things you say? If you claim something they have to believe you, no matter what?

My sister and I plan on watching it together on Netflix-- she's really into revolutionary war-era political drama... and I'm really into Burn Gorman.

I have never been able to subdue a cat by throwing a towel on it. All I get is a blind angry cat.

And dogs are more likely to be intimidated by posturing and such. Cats are just angry demons (I have two cats).

sure, but this is all pretty tame by FS standards. It's not even the most hostile comment thread in this post

Re: If You Had To Choose A New Surname

(Anonymous) 2015-05-24 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been thinking about getting my mother's surname, which she took after divorcing dad, at some point. My own is rather common, in top 10 in the country. My mother is the only one with that surname in the country. For that reason I won't tell what it is, but I can tell that it means "Iron's Land".

I always knew Lauren Faust was a straight white guy!

(Anonymous) 2015-05-24 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Stay away from Cats & Dogs. Mostly because it's a bad movie but also because cats are the Biggest Bad.

Cinderella aside, Disney isn't always so bad with cats. Aristocats obviously, Oliver & Company and the good cat in 101 Dalmations.

This is why I only read completed fics these days (except for 1-2 authors I trust to update regularly).

Honestly, I think it just gets to me because my parents pulled this stuff on me as a kid ALL the time.

Like, they'd tell me we'll go to the park this weekend. And I'd be so excited and happy. But then the weekend came and they'd be too tired and say we'd go next week. Which, okay, I understand that they have a lot of work and responsibilities. But they CONSISTENTLY did this, week after week. And I got tired of having a carrot dangled in front of me and then told I'm being ungrateful for wanting to actually have the damn carrot.

If they couldn't do it then they couldn't do it. I understand. But I honestly would have preferred that they didn't even suggest it in the first place if they thought they might not be able to take me.

Just wait until it's the weekend and announce that we're gonna go and GO.

Similarly, just post the update if you have one.

It's not unreasonable - however, unless you're paying them, they still owe you nothing.

But you're not 5 any more? Talking about something that happened when you were 5 does not mean people have to treat you with the same delicacy that they would treat an actual 5 year old.

I've had a rabbit (was so young I don't remember, though) and dogs... That's about it. I adore dogs, they're fun companions, but I've always thought birds, hamsters or cats would be cool. (Well, most everything tbh; I've always wanted fish as well, but I have a friend who has them and it sounds tricky.)
