I have a soft spot for swapping both parties in a slash couple to make a femslash story. Not sure how much of that is just desire for more femslash in general, but anyway.

Too bad the majority of genderswap is "swapping the less attractive dude (into a really attractive lady???) to get with the guy the entire fandom has the hots for". Not one exception.

haha, this reminds me that I used to see a few SGA lady!Rodney/Sheppard fics where Rodney was drop dead gorgeous as a woman for some reason. Good times...

Oh, SGA, I miss that fandom :( I think a lot of those fics just described him as a pudgier version of his sister? Which is okay I guess, but still.

Recently in Hobbit fandom, an extremely well-known and popular fic had fem!Bilbo work as a lingerie model. So...

It's funny, but as someone who shares that desire, I can never really get into stories like that, especially if I'm familiar - even in passing - with the source work. It's just impossible for me to dissociate the characters from who they are in canon. Can't do it.

I think it works in small doses -- a one-shot, or a really far-out AU. If it were, I don't know, a lengthy retelling of canon, I probably wouldn't be able to suspend my disbelief.
