It just feels callous when other characters do that. Like, I get it when the character going through a rough time decides they want to do that stuff, but other characters PUSHING them into doing those things? Like, what the hell, that's not helpful at all.

It's often the "but it's good for them, they just don't realize it so they need someone to aggressively push them way beyond their comfort zone!" mentality.

Which is equally unattractive and generally assholish, whether in fic or RL.

And in fic, it's almost always wrapped up in this grossly bumptious attitude that really makes me see red.
