Hi! I live in San Diego. If you want to use public transportation as your main transport, I would not recommend living in SD. Almost everyone I know relies on using their own car because public transportation is not really reliable. And the ones who don't have their own car often rely on people with cars to drive them places. It's totally doable, but it's not convenient.

I lived in San Francisco for four years, and I didn't have a car. I never needed one. Public transportation was so easy and convenient. The downside is that SF is ridiculously expensive to live in. I mean, SD is too but compared to SF, it's livable.
