Most of my friends are atheists but I don't even know what a libertarian is. Some American thing?

it's like a Republican except they hate disabled people instead of gay people

It's people that believe in smaller government, lower taxes, less laws that take away rights. Often less war actions, but not always.

For example there's pro-gay marriage and anti-gay marriage and there's some libertarians that would say let's abolish government control on marriage entirely and let people do what they want.

Are there bad ones? Sure. There's bad everything.
