Dlc?

[personal profile] caerbannog 2015-05-27 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm upset because I bought an adorable game for $20. And it feels very unfinished, glitches, it's not early access and now they're coming out with a doc to add more content which is already in the main game files (I had a peek). The dlc will be another $8ish.

And I feel ripped off basically. The game is uber cute and artsy but there's little replayability or content.

Tldr I feel ripped off, what's your feelings about dlc?

What game is it?

I like DLC if the game was already pretty detailed and long without it, so the DLC just feels like a bonus (I didn't mind forking over money for the DLC that the first Dragon Age game came out with because the game felt pretty complete without it)

Shelter 2!

I knew it was a small short game but nothing I read mentioned the utter lack of content. There's things like bushfires in the original game and the game files but they're not implemented unless you buy the dlc :(

What, seriously? What a ripoff. And I was kinda interested in that game.

Id only get it if it was on sale or a bundle, given the choice :(

At first I thought I hadn't explored enough cause I didn't even see wolves in the main game but since then I've been forced to realise that yup there's really only one threat to you on one map that happens once. The rest of the time you're good as long as the Cubs are fed.

So I thought alright I'll be the first person to collect all the hidden items and I can't even do that because they spawned outside of the sandbox area!

Not worth the $20au. $5-10au, but not $20 and most certainly not $20 with the 4th map behind another dlc.

I like DLC, for the most part - as long as they're additions to the game, and shouldn't be required in the game itself. You can go all of Mass Effect 2 without needing Kasumi or Zaeed, but they're fun to have and can open up another dimension of the world.

I find DLC best when they're exploring parts of the story that wouldn't have worked in the main storyline but can add knowledge of the world and enjoyment for the player.

I'm cool with DLC in principle. I tend to buy story DLC for games I like. I don't see it as any different from the old days of expansion packs.

There are some practices that I dislike, though. One is the on-disc DLC that you have to pay to unlock. That's pretty shitty (and Capcom loves it, of course.) I also am not a fan of releasing 6 million skins for a buck each. That's basically horse armor, innit? It's useless, especially if it unbalances the game difficulty.

Not too fussed about it unless the game be a broke piece of shit or it's on-disc BS.
I also don't like pre-order stuff as well, and prefer to wait till they release it as packaged dlc.

In general, I never buy DLC for a game. If the game lacks enough content to merit purchasing without the DLC, I don't purchase it. If it has enough content, I buy it, play it, and am done.

It depends on how it's done tbh. Basically if it's not a requirement that I buy DLC in order to enjoy the game fully then I've got no issue.

But if I have to pay in order to unlock features that should be readily available? Yeah I don't like that.

I like DLC that adds to the story, especially if they have a decent length (like Awakening for Dragon Age: Origins or Left Behind for The Last of Us). I usually try to buy DLC on sale though, as I feel a lot of it is overpriced (at least in my currency). I don't think they should be necessary to understand the story though.

I'm not too fond of things like outfit DLCs and won't bother to buy that myself. Same with weapons, though I think that's a bit more iffy, especially for multiplayer games and if the DLC weapons are ridiculously overpowered.

I'm a bottom feeder, so I generally pick up the bundle when it hits a good price point for me.

The base game needs to be really good for me to consider it. If I've not played out the base game, there's not really any point. Minimally I'll buy DLC that offers a full quest chain or new mechanic that interests me (such as the houses in Skyrim). Microtransactions such as stuff packs, skins, models, etc., etc., are a pass. Microtransaction pay-to-win is right out.

I only like DLC if it's adding extras to the game, but isn't necessary to enjoy the game. Otherwise, fuck DLC.
