I get that that was the intended meaning, but it was executed so clumsily that the 'I'm a monster' comment feels like a non sequitor. And even if Natasha wasn't saying that being infertile made her a monster, the idea that being infertile makes killing easier or that there (it's debatable whether and to which degree Natasha agreed with the red room people) is fucked up by itself.

Presumably the cut that makes it not sound like that is part of the four hours of footage that Whedon shot because he is bad at directing these days.

I don't agree I found the meaning quite clear, so did pretty much everyone I've spoken to about this in RL, which doesn't mean that it can't be unclear for people, but I find it weird that the people I spoke to all of us watching the film in our second language found the meaning quite clear, but people whose first language is English don't.

And again it isn't the being infertile part that made it easier to kill, but having someone who depends on you and will be more important than the mission is what will make killing harder. Not the fact that they can't have children, but that they don't have them, because they are a distraction. Which also brings with it the fact that they can have sex with a mark and never have to worry about getting pregnant.

I don't think being infertile was supposed to make the killing easier? I thought it was just to prevent the possibility that she might accidentally get pregnant because that could change her loyalties.

Yeah, pretty much. Being able to HAVE a family could end up being a distraction or make her switch, which isn't good for that organization. So, they sterilized her to be a better "monster" since she'd have no reason to switch or be distracted.
