Re: Slight Avengers - AOU spoiler:
(Anonymous) 2015-05-28 12:45 am (UTC)(link)If that many people get the wrong message from something you've written, then you've written it badly. There's a difference between some people in the audience simply "not getting it", and presenting it so poorly that a significant amount of people pick up on something you didn't intend. Whether that was the intent or not, sterility=monster is as valid an interpretation of that scene as any. And that's not the audience's fault.
Re: Slight Avengers - AOU spoiler:
Or people are not always smart, a lot of people aren't great at picking up nuances, the question if you should cater to those people at all times are another story. Saying that is like saying that Loki is the good guy in the Thor films, because Thor was mean to him a couple of times, doesn't make it correct.
Re: Slight Avengers - AOU spoiler:
(Anonymous) 2015-05-28 01:40 am (UTC)(link)This wasn't a nuance. This isn't fanon interpretation. This was shoddy writing at best, and at worst maybe Wheedon's critics are right; either way, he wrote a female character speaking lines that could very, very easily be construed a different way to the one he presumably intended.
It doesn't make it an interpretaion you agree with but neither does it make them incorrent. There's plenty in the text itself to support that argument. Good-guy Loki, not so much.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-28 02:04 am (UTC)(link)Because I sure as fuck didn't.
Re: Slight Avengers - AOU spoiler:
(Anonymous) 2015-05-28 02:07 am (UTC)(link)Did holocaust survivors and family members of holocaust survivors need reminders about it when they saw the first X-Men movie or X-men: First Class? Did PTSD sufferers need to be reminded about it when they saw Iron Man 3? Probably not, but a lot of superhero movies and comics deal with real life issues and challenges that make the characters seem more human and realistic so you just kind of have to deal with it
Re: Slight Avengers - AOU spoiler:
(Anonymous) 2015-05-28 02:09 am (UTC)(link)PTSD in any action movie is predictable.
"Oh hey, have another female character defining her worth via whether or not she can have children"? Not so much.

That's not at all what I took away from that scene
