Not to mention, Ginny was originally a little more...quiet, I guess is good word, which I kind of sorta saw Lily as (not meek though, just quiet), then, when JKR wanted to shoe horn in the shitty romance, she changed Ginny's personality.
Yes, I hated that pairing, but not because I like Harry/Hermione (it's ok). It just thought it was badly written.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-28 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)tbf, it was established a couple of times that the reason Ginny was so quiet was that her crush on Harry initially made her very shy when she was around him (which is pretty common and it makes sense that she eventually grew out of it). She's implied to be a lot more outgoing when not in Harry's presence (which is the only time we see her since the book is centered around his POV) and Ron even outright says to Harry in Chamber of Secrets "You don't know how weird it is for her to be this shy, she never shuts up normally."
That said, I do agree that Harry/Ginny wasn't all that well written. I love the books, but I don't think romance was Rowling's forte in general tbh
