The last point is very fair imo, especially how the town was it's own character. It was basically Freaky Stories at the start, but now it's a character ensemble. I think online media, the kind that doesn't have a clear end-goal or layout of presentation, tends to veer toward transforming itself the more it goes on (eg: webcomics, websites, online shows that no longer resemble their early hiccupy charming start). WTNV is totally a radio show, but it's also very crowd-sourced in the sense of expanding its universe thanks to fans and live shows.

If it had stuck to that formula, I think I still would have loved it, even if it only meant seeing the citizens growing from Cecil's POV (the decried racist headdress wearing guy for instance, I'm glad I never got to hear his voice or see all that much of him). There was more room for interpretation, and to consider him as an unreliable narrator.

Yes, exactly. What I liked about it was the way the unreliable narrator thing was turned up to eleven, but it somehow didn't really matter. It was part of the weird and "creepy" vibe ("creepy" because I didn't actually think it was creepy, but the atmosphere was definitely creepy-ish). The weirdness and mytsery has gotten a bit lost along the way, I think.
I get it that it's the way they make their money to keep the show running, and since it's a free podcast I can't really complain. But it somehow feels like it's a bit ... too crowdsourced.
A thing I'm really sad about is how I actually liked Cecil alot in the beginning but now I find him kind of annoying, somehow. It's a pity. (Carlos as well, but that's because I really don't like his voice and I'm very ... voice fixated ahahaha OTL).
