Re: Cheap, delicious foods
I mean I guess if you forgo the flavor packet that comes with the stuff you might avoid a lot of the sodium but some of the stuff you're adding probably has sodium. Maybe not as much?
Also, it's interesting that your ramen costs so much. That's more than twice what a packet of ramen costs for me ($0.20).

(Anonymous) 2015-05-30 09:02 am (UTC)(link)concerning the nutritive value... well, it's no better or worse than spaghetti or white bread for that matter. Flavor needs something plain to work on. But a decent chicken stock can be pretty healthy, if you use more substance and less flavor enhancing additives. and by adding stuff like vegetables you can make it just as healthy as any noodle dish.
anyway, nothing is ever bad for you unless you eat it in an unbalanced way. lots of sodium in one food can be totally OK as long as the other stuff you eat contains less. You could also use salt-reduced soy sauce or make shio-ramen with potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride, if you're concerned about that.
Frankly, I know from experience that the japanese diet is traditionally salty, and still they are amongst the more healthy nations, so I usually don't try and alter the recipes I use to make them "healthier".
Re: Cheap, delicious foods
...I never claimed ramen was worse for you than spaghetti or white bread. All that shit is just empty carbs. Ramen is cheaper though, at least where I live.
