Sometimes I miss the good old days, too. Now almost everyone uses Facebook or Twitter or Skype or tumblr (to keep in touch, even) and I either: don't know how to use those sites properly, don't like them, am too lazy to stay on top of them, etc.

MSN and AIM... Those were the days.

Of course if you want to talk to people you could always just do it here, even if that requires effort too. The PM feature can be useful.

f!s is my main connection to fandom these days... Or at least discussing fandom with anyone, so I feel you. I met my best fandom friend in the days of LJ but we keep in touch via text/email/gchat. Those things are always an option, but I would never give those out to someone I just met, so... If you're paranoid like me, you would have to work up to it. (But it's possible, just... Like you said, it takes effort. I understand how lurking can work better for people.)

skype is literally just an instant messenger. it's essentially MSN 2.0

Oops, I always thought skype was more of a video chat program... I didn't even realize you could simply IM. Huh. Maybe I should try it.

Now I feel dumb...
