9. I miss the first season of Pokemon. :( Once they changed the theme song and Brock left it just wasn’t the same.

10. I need to read that book. (And I blame bri_chan for shipping Alice/Mad Hatter too XD)

25. I hated the prequels, but that’s because my daddy made me watch the originals when I was five, so I grew up on them. Doesn’t mean I would look down on anyone who loves Episodes I, II, or III though.

27. That’s why I love hanging out at capslock_zutara. We have fun, we don’t take our ship too seriously, and we have awesome smut. I don’t pretend that Zutara is (or will be) canon. I like my ship, I like reading and writing fic for it. But I don’t like the gloating or the wank and I definitely don’t like people who pretend that they know what is going to happen by the end of Book 3. We have no idea what’s going to happen.

Okay, and I need to be careful how I word this because I don't want anyone to jump down my throat. Take what I say next here as a completely innocent question, I'm not trying to disprove your OTP guys: Does Aang kissing Katara really make it canon on Katara’s part? Just speaking from personal experience, a kiss does not guarantee reciprocated feelings. I think we’ll need a bit more exploration before we can really call Kataang canon on both sides. And we still have plenty of episodes left, and Aang still needs to defeat Ozai. Can he achieve the Avatar State if he is still holding on to Katara?

I think Aang/Katara is pretty apparent endgame even without the kiss factor, but that is just because I don't think they are going to pull anything out on a limb in regards to shipping. And Katara has shown signs of reciprocating, it just hasn't been blatant.

And on the Avatar state, I think Aang's decision is going to be upheld. Iroh backed him up on it, and Iroh is the moral center of the show, and I just don't see them putting so much into how Aang feels about her to not reciprocate it.

I really respect that Mike and Bryan have had everything planned out from the beginning, and they don't let the fans influence anything regarding the story. Shipping is fun, but it's not all Avatar is about. No matter who anyone ends up with, it'll still be awesome. Really.

Avatar state: Duh, I just watched Crossroads of Destiny the other day. Iroh did back him up on it. You make many valid points. :)

27. I'd say it's canon because... the build up has always been there, the intent of the show makes it obvious. To me it's like asking if Sailor Moon/Tuxedo Max is canon.

Add to that, the show runners have pretty much confirmed Aang/Katara as the canon ship.

Can he achieve the Avatar State if he is still holding on to Katara?
And since when has power > love the point of the show? More to the point, Aang did go in the Avatar State and Azula still kicked his ass. He's going to save the world in a different manner.

Guilty of missing the point, right here. :) I think I just never gave it much thought. I just accepted that he had to do that because they said that was what he had to do! I'm gullible that way!

Aang can't use the Avatar State anymore, so the point is entirely moot. I wish people would give up on this desperation angle already.

I think it's hardly a desperation angle on my part, since I did say in my original comment I wasn't trying to disprove anything. It was a question.

I think the whole Katara/Avatar State thing is a false dichotomy caused by Aang's (and, consequentially, the fans') complete misinterpretation of what the Guru meant. I wouldn't have caught it myself if I hadn't grown up with the Eastern philosophies ATLA tends to draw from. There's a huge difference between letting go of something and giving them up. The former actually refers to... how can I put this... sort of an emotional recontextualization. Love is a good thing (which, as Aang pointed out, the Guru himself said "three chakras ago"), but there has to be moderation, and an acknowledgment that she's a part of something bigger – remember the tree that was also a swamp – and that it makes no sense to hold her above the rest of the universe. "Let go of Katara" doesn't mean "give up your love," it just means, "give up your obsession, your addiction."

Does that make any sense at all? It's really hard to explain to someone who doesn't have the same background I do.
