what the hell, I feel like being talkative.

12. Are they Fuuma and Kamui? In speedos? I think I just threw up a bit. (But it was bad to use a CLAMP picture in that sort of secret, since they kind of play into those stereotypes anyway.)

18. Yeah, I pretty much agree. Although, I do admit that I love to frighten my friends with tales of his horrifying catchphrase. TINGLE KOOLOO LIM-PAH! Ah, I hated Majora's Mask...

20. I'd be happy if they stayed how they are now. Honestly, this is as good as canon gets, for them. No more bullshit. Just how I like it. :)

25. Hellz yeah, Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon. Ewan McGregor looked so much better before he grew that bush of a beard. I liked Episode 1 as well, though. Jar Jar was my favorite. :'( I was eleven, but still.

28. Online games in general do that. WoW is just targeted because it's one of the bigger offenders. I know I used to play FFXI constantly when I was on summer vacation in high school. There was that one guy that died from exhaustion playing EverQuest. I know people who are obsessive about RO. =/ It's more than just WoW. But honestly, I don't know how people can play so much on a game that essentially has no ending. I can't subscribe to online games for more than a month at a time anymore.

34. Man, I absolutely love blood elves, especially the males. They're so vain, and they make fun of themselves. It makes me sad that there are so many players that give them a bad wrap. =/

39. Then stop. I understand peer pressure and all that, but there's a way of saying that you dislike characters without saying that you hate them and everyone who loves them.

40. Man, what really gets me about a lot of fans is that they bitch about the new names. I don't remember half of the name-bitching from game 2 or three as we've gotten from game 4. The names make sense. The translators aren't the type to just pull stuff out of their ass for absolutely no reason.

41. I feel your pain. I used to read books all the time as a freshman, but as I got more into anime, I stopped reading regular books and opted for comic books instead. The last 'real' book I read was Howl's Moving Castle last year, and... well, you can guess how I got into that one. I feel bad for not being more inclined to read literature, but well... I like what I like! And that's all you can say.

Me too! I used to read like... during breakfast, walking to school, during class, at lunch, walking home, and at home. These days I can't even get through the latest Harry Potter book and I have to force myself to read stuff for school.

Has becoming an anime fan killed my brain or something? I just want to read fanfiction and comics. Gawd, I'm so lowbrow. -.-;;

Nah, I just like to think of it as enjoying literature in a different form. Granted, it's not as acclaimed or 'accepted' as literature, but then again... I dunno. Ever since I heard that in the old days, writers would get paid by the word or the page or whatever, I kind of lost my respect for some classic literature. Although, after reading a bit of Dumas, it makes so much sense.

I've had so many conversations defending the merits of fanfiction that I'm getting ground down and starting to think that maybe it really is on the bottom rung of literature. It's so much worse in school where you have these horribly academic discussions of what even qualifies as 'literature'.

Sometimes I think that people just put classic literature on a pedestal because that's what they were taught/it's old so it must be good (of course, usually it is actually good, but I'm seriously having my doubts right now about Henry James. Yes, writing in a completely incomprehensible manner makes your work literary, I see now!)

It really is viewed as the bottom rung, sadly. Even the anime medium itself is viewed as lower-class in terms of animation in general--voice actors get paid the lowest amount for ADR within anime, much of it is done non-union, and there are even a couple producers/directors in animation who won't hire actors who have worked in anime. It sucks. =/ EDIT Although, I found out that there is such a thing as a professional fanfiction author--scriptwriters for television shows. Someone was actually really interested in the fact that I wrote fanfiction for that reason... so maybe there's still hope./EDIT

But yeah, personally, I think literature is just... good writing. If it captures emotions well enough and captivates an audience, it's good enough for me. Personally, I think fanfiction does better in terms of capturing character traits than a lot of books that I've read, which is more important to me than an 'omgamazing story'.

They really, really do. Granted, there are some classic literature pieces that are pretty good because of the issues they touch on, but sometimes that's the only thing going for them. If I can write better than they can, well... we've got a bit of a problem, don't we?

I have no problem with any of the new names, except for Trucy. It's just... awkward, for me.

Yeah, I don't quite care for Trucy a whole lot, but it suits the rest of the silly names so I don't mind it. I just get bothered when I see people moan about Klavier or Apollo's name.

40- I love "Apollo," but every time they call him "Mr. Justice" in court I think I'm going to die a little inside.

[identity profile] hopelikefever.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, I remember freaking out when I heard that his name was 'Apollo Justice', but now I just can't stop busting up laughing.
