32. I seriously do not get Daine hate. Especially when people crow that Alanna is the better character. How is the series' biggest Canon!Sue a better character?? Tamora has even admitted that her earlier works weren't as great. WHAT.

Besides that, Kel pwns all.

I love the other girls and all, but I almost think half of that was junior high "squee, romance!"

Yeah, I basically read the Alanna series first, when I was mostly too young to understand whatever was going on, but it was all very fun and happy. Then I got through all the Kel books and really fell in love with her story and when I went back to Alanna it was like "...Oh." Not that I hate her now or anything, I just really like her in the other books, and the other books better. (:

I read Kel's first. Or rather, Squire. Because it was at the Book Fair in hardcover and looked all shiny. Then I atoned, read them all in order, and liked everyone else too. But Kel and her glaive and the creepy robotic spider babies will always have a special, kickass place in my heart.

Ah, my friend showed Kel to me after I'd read Alanna... Got all three which were out at the time, and picked up Lady Knight a while later. Fun times.

Neal was easily the best part of the series for me... *sigh* I was always a little sad when he and Kel didn't get together. But in the end, I like her lack of love interest. Made me relate to her more, I think.

I was like... twelve years old. DX My logic was not earth logic.

I think it was because an author that I really admired (who was actually the first reviewer of my first ever fic) was a hardcore Daine-basher and I just sort of jumped on the boat.

And when I first started writing the first Kel book was barely out and she didn't have the following the other girls did. I hate to admit it, but what really got me to liking Kel was Sulia Serafine's fanfiction, not the actual books. D:

I get that. For a while when I started getting into fandom, all I read were parodies and crackfic of Alanna's series, which certainly... affected my view of Alanna somewhat. :/ I wrote cheap knockoffs of the same, too, just never posted them. Now I usually keep off from Tortall fic - too much fodder for Mary-Sues - but I get the following thing. And I tended to stay away from the hardcore bashers then too, so that may be why I dislike them today... who knows? Anyway.
