I WEPT when Haku and Zabuza died. Dear God. I'd just started watching, and wasn't expecting that a series like Naruto would EVER make me feel like that. It was just so SAD. I think Naruto handles 'poignant' very well. You end up caring about everyone! I also ended up bawling at the Hokage's funeral.

Anime is all about ENJOYMENT. Who cares what other people do in public.

I know this sounds weird, but to me - anime is separate from fandom. I watch what I watch because I like to watch it, and I'm not ashamed. Hell, my boyfriend loves the Yu-Gi-Oh! dub and doesn't care what fandom thinks. Fandom is a separate thing that I can get involved with for series I want to write for. I love Naruto and Bleach, but I never got involved in the fandom.

And Naruto? The thing I love about Naruto is that they make every character neither good or evil, but grey (well...maybe not Orochimaru). You get to see their story and you find that there's so much behind their actions, then you feel for them. It's masterful that way. And there are just so many good characters!

No, no, I totally understand! I have SO many things I enjoy and keep separate from fandom, BECAUSE I find them more enjoyable in private. I don't think fandom can "ruin" anything, but sometimes I just don't have any fun with a series unless I'm watching it on my own. I ALSO love Naruto and Bleach, but I pretty much ignore all aspects of those fandoms.

YES. So much word. You learn so much about initially minor characters, and suddenly they become the coolest people ever. Awesomesauce.

ZABUZA AND HAKU! I don't really cry anymore when I watch the scenes in that episode where Zabuza finally dies, but the first time I watched it- I was practically bawling my eyes out. That, and those few scenes in the manga where Gai is finding out that Lee is still trying to fight Gaara and he's unconcious. ;_;

I know, man, I'm right there with you. Everyone tries so hard, and sometimes it ends up being heartbreaking. Naruto himself regularly makes me weep and want to squeeze him close and give him a pat on the head.
