Text: "You are rich, famous, and by all appearances a halfway-decent person
but
Vocal sections of your fandom are obnoxious, embarrassing, scary, and other horrible things"

I hope these kinds of celebs have found good ways to handle it in private, not just in public.

Pretty sure the mountains of cash allow them to forgive and/or all of fandom's ills, OP. And if it doesn't, what, exactly are they complaining for?

I feel like the majority of celebs probably don't pay enough attention to their fans to worry about this kind of thing on a regular basis. Not saying they don't appreciate the support (people seeing their movies, buying their music, whatever), but they stay busy.

I also imagine being famous gives you tough skin; they probably shrug this stuff off. (Plus, there's only so much any celeb can do to control their fanbase. Fandom is going to do what it wants, often even if it's something the fanbase knows the celeb doesn't like.)

I strongly suspect this isn't as serious of a problem for celebrities as some people might think. The nice thing about wealth is that it buys you a big buffer zone between you and the rest of the world, if you want it. Now if you're mega-famous, that's more difficult. But in that case, it's likely the paparazzi that's the biggest, scariest nuisance, not vocal fans.

I think I agree. I feel like obnoxious and horrible fans are more of a problem for others fans than any given celeb.

To be honest, I think fandom cares more about this than the celebrities. Celebrities have more control over how much they interact with fans, and they can choose very minimal access if they want. On the other hand, when fandom gets up in arms and go on and on about how awful other parts of fandom are, it feels like posturing to me. People almost get off on the obnoxious vocal minorities of fandom and their crimes, as if they want to distinguish themselves as being the "good" or "true fans" by comparison.

I'd rather have a loud and obnoxious internet fandom than paparazzi trying to drive me off the road and screaming obscenities at me in front of my kids. Honestly, short of actual stalkers (only some of whom are in fandom), the worst of fandom falls short.
