That post pisses me off because they actually believe that JKR wrote Hermione as being black when, there's no description of her as being such at all. the ONLY time we get any sort of skin description for her was after she'd tanned up some during a vacation.

Somehow, that translates her to being black. And they will ROAST YOU if you point that out.

Like, I like headcanons from time to time with the characters as a different race. When I used to draw human!MLP characters, I always diversified them as having them all white (and one asian) was boring as fuck. But DON'T say it's actually canon when it's NOT.

It's more that they believe that it's just as possible that Hermione is black as it is that she is white, precisely because of what you say: there's no description of her skin color at all save for a mention of her being "very brown" after summer vacation, so she effectively has no canon skin color. No canon skin color = it may not actually be canon that she's black, but it's not canon that she's white either. The text doesn't contradict the interpretation that she is black.

No it doesn’t. Which is why, as a headcamon, it's fine to have fun with that.

My problem with that, however, is when they start treating it like it IS canon. And start to attack people for not accepting that as canon. That is where that line is being crossed and makes me angry and makes me end up ultimately rejecting those headcanons and just continue to see her as a white girl.

When people do that kind of shit, you end up doing more harm than good because you end up doing exactly that, pissing people off who do the opposite to spite you.

Treat it as headcanon and write a fic exploring that. Cool. But do not force that on others and treat them like shit if they continue to view said characters as a non-poc.
