The problem with stories about people being good is it's hard to experience them unless someone is actively doing something nice for you. I encounter people in my daily life that are pleasant or generally nice or actively helping out coworkers, but it's hard to say whether or not that's philanthropy or just being part of a prosocial team environment.

My gf's boss, for example, is very nice in that she keeps leaving little tiny presents for her like a box of gum or pocky or a new pen here and there for her when she comes on shift. It's because she's trying to be friends and that's a pretty normal thing to do for friends in her culture (according to my experiences). It's nice, but it's nice by design.

So what are you looking for, OP? Is being good not killing spiders? Is it rescuing animals from high kill shelters to foster them until they can find homes for adoption? Is it volunteering your time to serve tea to people in care homes who don't have the mobility to go out anymore?

Fucking hell. I'd love to see you and dethtoll in a battle of condescension and pedanticism.

I can't hear you over how far up my ass you are.

da

The anon who replied to you was being rude, but honestly there's no need to lecture someone about what it means to be good, when the OP clearly just wanted stories about people going out of their way to do good deeds for others/shrugs

I wasn't lecturing, I was making sure I was giving the OP what they wanted, according to their definition of what constitutes someone being good.

People aren't good the way dogs are good. There is no set universal "good human" criteria.

If you weren't sure you could have just asked "what kind of stories about people being good are you looking for?"

But anyways, you've heard enough from me :P

Go kill yourself. Please. You suck all the happiness right out of the atmosphere.

Oh god please no one reply to the troll, that's what they want

Anything that shows people are not terrible. Your story about the presents is perfectly valid! It's nice to see people being nice to each other.

(I guess I would prefer stories about people being good/nice to other people but I'm cool with animals or whatever else too. There's just been a lot of depressing stories in the news lately.)

Just wanted to see what you were looking for! How about a story about several thousand anonymous donors coming forward to try to donate a liver to a little girl in need?

I can't find the news links right now, but it was recently in the papers. I think that counts as something positive and not about animals and that might now constitute a random act of goodwill or social move.

Edit: I think this might have been the one?

Every single one of these is awesome. (And it's nice to see Stephen back in the news! Especially with something so thoughtful.)

I was at the bookstore once and I wanted to get the second volume of Rayearth (the big one with the last three volumes together), but I had apparently over drawn in my checking account and couldn't get it. So I resigned myself to not getting it and was heading out the door when this lady walks up to me and said she'd get it for me. Because she remembered wanting to get something sometimes and finding out she didn't have enough money for it.

I was shocked, but I thanked her went on my way ^^.

My local foodbank got 4,500 lbs of food, and two local farmers donated food to them as well.
