Two close same-sex friends in a popular ship seriously consider entering a romantic relationship together. They decide not to. But not because they want to, except there's roadblocks like homophobia or professional considerations or personal issues; but because, upon reflection and discussion (or even experimentation), they decide they actually don't want to be in a romantic relationship/aren't very attracted to each other/aren't in love that way.

It's just that it gets a little disappointing to me that it seems that gen fic writers always have the characters react to slash with either "lolwhut that never even crossed our minds!" or "ew, no way it's like incest!"
