Things you wish people knew about your job

Customers, bosses, the general public, etc.

I have to touch the clothes you put on your bodies all fucking day. No, I do not need you to "make work for me" by dropping shit you don't want on the floor RIGHT UNDER THE FUCKING RACK! And yes, when I find a nasty-ass panty, covered in your diseased vaginal discharge (you should REALLY get that looked at, honey), I know you fucking stole shit, because I checked under the stool myself right before you went in.

Don'chu fucking lie to me

idiot.

I'm a receptionist.

1. People don't realize it, but it's so annoying when they leave their phone numbers superfastinvoicemails. Sloooow down. Otherwise I have to replay the VM again. Sometimes I have to replay it multiple times.

2. If you had any idea how frequently we get interrupted, you'd understand why we' occasionally appear a bit tired and impatient. It's not cool if we show it, but sometimes you come in or call just as we've finally gotten a chance to have lunch. Not that it excuses mean receptionists, though. I actually judge bad receptionists really hard because I know how you're supposed to treat people. But I also realize sometimes you walked in at the wrong time.

3. I can't tell you why my boss hasn't called you. Stop asking me that. This isn't seventh grade, I'm not going to tell you whether he likes you, like likes you, or doesn't like you at all and you should call someone else.

+1000000 for #1. I have to take messages for my mom's business and I absolutely hate how people spit out their phone numbers like it's a race to say it as fast as possible. And it's always at the VERY end of a LONG message where nothing preceding the number is in any way relevant. Or they just assume there's caller ID and we know who is calling and what their number is. We get dozens and dozens of calls and the numbers are often blocked. Sorry, I can't tell who you are in the list of numbers. It's so frustrating.

THIS 555555555555thankyoubye. :P Seriously though, it is frustrating.

I've never gotten the caller ID one, thankfully. Although now I've probably jinxed myself and will go to work tomorrow, low and behold...

Dear people who buy stuff from us on Amazon,

1. Thanks for buying from us!
2. We don't purposely get your order wrong. We ship out hundreds (thousands during holidays) of packages a day (with only 3 shippers). Mistakes happen. We will try out best to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
3. Sometimes there are delays out of our control. We will try our best to get our item to you ASAP.
4. Don't order something the week before Christmas and then bitch because it isn't there immediately or in time for Christmas. Plan better.
5. No you will not get your refund until we get the item back. We once had someone send a box full of milk jugs to try and get a refund. The idiots didn't think we would open the box I guess.

I'm holding you responsible for the ridiculous international postage for tiny items ;)

Oh no! That'd be the Ebay section of our company. They ship international. They are such jerks! :P

Aw, I've never had a problem with Amazon. Though I do love their probably-unintentionally-passive aggressive emails.

"We thought you'd like to know that we've shipped your items."

Why yes, yes I would. Thank you. :|

Yeah, they are usually unintentionally passive aggressive. Unless you are a jerk to them. Like, some people will call the day after they order something, "WHY HAS MY ITEM NOT BEEN SHIPPED? IT HAS BEEN A WHOLE 14 HOURS!"

Heh, to add to this: dear customers, we do our best to make sure items get to you in one piece. But accidents happen. See my post about warehouse systems and such.

Omg, yes. IT ISN'T OUR FAULT USPS BENT YOUR ITEM! I put don't bend on the package!

The only time Amazon has ever fucked up for me is by sending a package to the wrong address. It's one of the three I have on my list, but it wasn't the one I picked (I double-checked this) so I'm guessing it was a system error of some kind. Either way it was my old address in town rather than one in a different country entirely, lol, so I just waited until it said "delivered" and snagged it from the porch at my old address.

Maybe that's illegal but lol.

I love amazon, they are always super consistent for me and often things come BEFORE the estimated arrival.

Plus after doing some shipments on a small scale business level, I have a new appreciation for how hard it is to be 100%. Fuck ups happen even if it isn't your fault.

I only ever get on a company's case if they fuck up REALLY badly and their customer service is atrocious, but I've never had problems with amazon.

As an intern I can't give you legal advice. No. Really. Ask the attorney.

As a paralegal, I cannot either. It's true!

Not an intern, nor do I work at a law firm, but yes, I get this.

Your taxes don't pay for my job and I don't spend all day lazing around and your taxes definitely do not pay for our Wednesday game nights because we all do that out of pocket so fuck off with your stupid tax jokes >.<

And I only pull a sickie when I'm sick, thank you.

Your survey was not cancelled because we want to use it for free and just don't want to pay you. If we cancelled it, then we have to get it redone by someone else. And I do not actually have any say in cancellations. You can talk to my boss but as she's the one who made the decision, she's not going to "overrule" me. I also have no say over compensation so stop asking me.

If you end up with a package that is a bit banged up, never assume the driver who delivered it trashed it. Cause the system where I am can cause plenty of package damage, from the belts, rollers, slides, and other packages themselves.

i'm in childcare. i'm not a babysitter, i'm not a 'worker', i'm a teacher, an educator. most of us have gone to college to work here. there is so much more to my job than people realize.

Re: Things you wish people knew about your job

(Anonymous) 2015-06-02 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Even if you hadn't gone to college and were "JUST" a babysitter you'd STILL be doing a job. Don't knock people w/o diplomas who watch other people's children also.

I am not selling anything. I AM NOT SELLING ANYTHING. This is why the 'Do Not Call' list does not apply.

When i say 'I need to tell you why I'm calling before I can take you off our list' - I MEAN IT. Really. I have to follow some rules, here, and that's one of them. When you say 'NO!! JUST TAKE ME OFF!!!' and hang up, you are going to be schedule for a call back. What i have to say takes literally 30 seconds or less. If you listen, say 'no' whan i say 'are you interested?' then boom, done, off the list.

I can hear you talking to the person i need to talk to. You said their name. So stop lying to me and telling me they're not in. *sigh*

To management - I'm gonna be sitting here and doing this for five or six or seven or even eight hours. A headset and modem that work *consistently* would be really fucking nice, you cheapskates.

It's not as easy as it seems. And I wish people would stop putting my work down. "Oh managing an embassy? It's not that hard!" yes well why don't you do it yourself ya lil prick? Or at least help me out because I could use a lot of help here. ;_;
