I disagree passionately! Russia was amazing and I didn't expect them to be in the top 5 but oh I wish they had won instead of Sweden, it was such a touching song!

(Moldova was my number 1 though and I'm so sad they didn't make it to grand final again. Russia doing so well made me feel better. Other top pics were Armenia Belgium Serbia Belarus denmark Romania and Sweden )

No one's saying your average joe Russian person is goign around beating up gay people but you've got to admit your government is pretty hostile to the whole idea, and that seems a poor fit for what Eurovision is all about.

I tend to have preferences based on the song and singing group and not the policies and controversies the country is experiencing. Which is why I was surprised they got second, considering their current political situation. Didn't expect them to get points, especially considering the bits of Russian media decrying Polina and her song for being too accepting. The country isn't a hive mind though you know.

So yes after Moldova as my #1 I had hoped Russia would win. Second place is also good.
