I hate that "If X was a girl" stuff. I mean, you don't see people asking het shippers if they'd still like their favorite ships if one of them changed genders. I don't know why it's such a big deal if people are interested in same sex pairings, the double standard is pretty hilarious (in a somewhat sad way).

Plus, I'm pretty sure gender affects more than someone's genitalia, you can't really say a character would be exactly the same if they were of the opposite sex. There's too much about human sexuality and how it affects people their ENTIRE lives to brush it off with such a silly question.

Well, on the other end, you see far fewer slash/femslash shippers denouncing all het ships as "just friends." I'm not saying it doesn't happens -- it still does, and is still remarkably stupid when it does -- but it's lesser. Whereas any person who happens to ship slash, even for the dynamics, gets labeled a "fangirl" and is obviously shipping two people who are entirely platonic just for the buttsex.

The moral of the story is that shipping arguments suck and need to go die in a hole.

Huh? Maybe I wasn't clear but I was sort of speaking out against those who are always criticizing slash fans just for liking slash, when people of all preferences have the potential to be incredibly shallow and lame. For some reason slash is picked on more harshly, and all these negative things are pegged solely on slash fans :|

Like I was saying, that argument that people bring up about slash fans not liking their ship if it was het is so stupid. You'd be hard pressed to find people telling het fans they wouldn't like their ship if they were both male or both female. Gender affects more than your sexual organs, so it's not that simple a thing to say "Well, if so-and-so was a girl, would you still like the pairing/character?"

Ah, I misunderstood, then. My mistake!

I think it's a pretty bad argument myself, honestly, and I never use it. I agree that gender is something more than what's between your legs, though I think that characters at thier hearts would still be similar.

I just hate ship arguments in general :/

No worries 8Db

True, there are things that would remain the same at the core, but there are a bunch of things, probably more related to outside influences/how others treat you, that would be different depending on whether you're male or female. But then again, this all depends heavily on the individual situation as well.

Yeah, they're pretty annoying. I can't help speaking up on occasion though, but I acknowledge that these arguments tend to run in (extremely unproductive) circles most of the time.
