The video was pretty shitty, if we're being honest

The song is shitty too. Other than Shake It Off, I have yet to hear a Taylor Swift song that isn't terrible or at best mediocre.

The song is... not one of her higlights either. But it's fine. Better than the video anyway (also probably better than Welcome To New York)

I'm pretty much just an unapologetic Taylor Swift fan at this point though, so.

It was just one impractically clad hot chick after another. Nothing new, and certainly nothing empowering.

I wouldn't even care if it wasn't new or empowering as long as it had, like, some basic narrative or idea about what it was trying to do

But it was just like "Look how badass and cool my friends and I look (and also look how many friends I have, so nuts to you, Katy Perry)"

I love how this thing is 'empowering' but Sucker Punch got it up the ass for THE EXACT SAME THING.

not that I'm trying to claim Sucker Punch as a masterpiece, but at one point I couldn't admit that I liked it visually BECAUSE CHICKS IN SKANTY CLOTHES OH NO

My favorite critique is from the AV Club's website -- "The video's just a bunch of names on screen. It's like a Sucker Punch version of Too Many Cooks."

I agree that it was overrated, but I do like the song a lot. And yes, she looks hot there. I love the styling of the video in general even if the actual content was lackluster.

I would've liked the video better if it had an actual story. The people involved were cool, but there were so many and no one actually did anything but show up and be gifted with a cheesy name.

So if Taylor decided to do a part two using the same characters and tell an actual story, I would most likely enjoy it. It was a slick video, but a hollow one.

(And yes, she was gorgeous in this vid. Maybe it was the costumes and makeup, because I've always found her pretty but never been attracted to her; I see it now.)

I kind of liked it in a cheesy-spy way, but there's not much to the video, just a bunch of well-known ladies in cool outfits and odd names.

I like the song because I can really commiserate with it. I have an ex-friend who really, really fucking hurt me, and she went around faking that she was apologizing to a bunch of people she had burned bridges with to 1) get back at me and 2) to make herself look good.

I do like the video though, even despite the criticisms. Which are valid! But I still like it.

god, same. recently had a falling out with a "friend" who's been EXTREMELY shitty to me and has totally used me/our friendship. she's now hugely pally with a lot of people she used to bitch about to me. every time i hear this song i think about this situation and imagine myself using it as a way to tell her to fuck off.

Funnily enough, this was the first song of hers that I've actually listened to, and while I enjoy listening to it, I couldn't stop laughing at the video when the woman named 'Crimson Curse' came on because I don't think it was intentionally a period joke but that's all I could think of.

I think it was intentionally a period joke -- all the women in the video got to name their characters. Someone had a sense of humor about it!

I kind of like the video in that cheesy kind of way. It's too ridiculously impractical to actually be empowering, but I get the fantasy of kick-ass-ness angle.

But I think it's fairly obvious I'm not the target audience because I only know about three of the women in it.

I think the video was oversaturated with characters who could be quite badass in their own stories. I'd love to see some worldbuilding and story expansion by fans, but you hardly get things like that with music videos.

There is fix on AO3! Only 18 though, and not a ton of world building yet. (I was confused by one story discussing all the girls' personalities... Like, where were you getting personality traits from in THAT video??)
