The thing is, she's the kind of person who won't take anything from anyone. I actually offered to pay her electrical bill and she turned me down. So I don't think she'd accept any donations.

She's just this awesome person. She's the hardest working person I know (two jobs, she puts her all into them even though one of them takes total advantage of her) and the nicest. And I just want to help.

If she won't take money then you're not going to be able to do much there.

Just continue to be emotional support -- try to find things you can do together for free if you can. Go to the park. Play sports. Chat about fanfic (if she's into that) or books (Gutenberg project is free!).

If you feel helpless, one thing you can do is maybe read up on the laws in your state concerning medical insurance/car insurance or bankruptcy so that you can try to help her.
