Used to bite my nails.

Then I stopped.

Now my stress habit is worse. Should have just kept biting my nails.

I did that too. (When I was much younger.)

Now I wouldn't (Largely because I spend too long polishing them, but also for sanitary reasons), but I need some way to channel my anxiety, so I end up obsessively checking my phone or fidgeting.

Yep, my low level stress habit bloomed into mild trichotillomania instead, which is way more annoying and well less easy to stop. So.

Fuck you Mrs. 4th Grade teacher who made me quit biting my nails. Fuck you very much.

Oh no :( She probably thought she was helping at the time, but you can never predict how a person is going to react. I don't know what I would've done if someone had forced me to stop.

I hope you find something that helps!

Anxiolytics would probably help but the trade off goes the wrong way into the more harm than good category; like I said, it's pretty mild and I'm not giving myself bald spots or anything. I pretty much just live with it and try to find ways to avoid becoming stressed out rather than deal with it more directly.

On the grand scheme of minor anxiety ticks it's basically nothing but an annoyance, but I do wish I had just been allowed to work out the physical expression of my stresses on my own rather than be forced to "correct" the problem only to have it develop into something less controllable.

I used to bite my nails too. I haven't started back up yet. I do twiddle my hair and fidget, though.

Hahaha yeah I still keep mine cut very short just in case I just implode some day and start gnawing.
