There are certainly times when I love the source material but barely glance at the fandom (either because the canon supplies most everything I want, or the fandom isn't to my taste), but I am the sort of person who will be into a fandom for a couple months then need a break from it. (Which pretty much always happens, no matter how great the fandom is.)
I suppose in a way it's better since there's more options (you can always go back to an old fandom, or try to find a new one), but it might also be harder because there's more to keep up with. (I'm always behind on something. Several somethings. Sometimes a dozen somethings, lol.)
It is hard when you're particularly into a fandom and this happens. At this point I've come to expect it, and am pleasantly surprised when it doesn't happen.
At any rate, I hope you can find a fandom you enjoy! (And want to stick with.)

(Anonymous) 2015-06-03 01:42 am (UTC)(link)I'm tempted to get back into some old video game fandoms because, if nothing else, I liked reading and discussing the gameplay mechanics. And maybe there might finally be some fic for the tiny, tiny fandoms of some games I used to play.

Sadly there's not much fandom for some of mine either, and I doubt that's changed much. (What art/fic there is...is not good.)
Any particular ones?

I rarely hear anything about it, but when I do it's always good! I hope the fandom is larger too.
