4. Maybe you're not friending the right people? I dunno, sometimes it can take a while before you ever really get anything going with your flist, I have lots of friends I only occasionally comment to. Most of my flist, I communicate with by other means, like AIM and email.

Maybe...I'm not friending the right people. Most friended me...but I did friend a few because they sounded sweet and interesting and we had at least something in common. I tried AIM with a couple of them...but it didn't go so well. One didn't seem interested at all. Guess I kind of got scared away from that, but that's my fault.

A lot of people friend me out of the blue. I rarely friend any of them back and after they friend me I pretty much never hear from them again. I look at lj friending less as a way to find friends and more as some sort of contest of who can collect the most people. Most of the people on my f-list, I've met in real life or have known for many years. While it's true that I've made friends through fandom, I didn't make them solely through lj.

I'm pretty shy myself sometimes, but I like talking to people. All I can say if is you don't get it right the first time, try again. It can be nerve wracking, but these people aren't out to hurt you or make you feel bad. It might take a few times of just saying hi, how are you, did you read chapter such and such to really get anything going. Try not to get too discouraged.

And if all else fails just remember that the internet is pretty interesting cause you can be whoever you want to be. You can make a new journal and be outgoing and make friends there. Use it as a fannish journal and your other as just a personal-type journal. You have to be flexible, because friend making is never cut and dry.

It does seem to be a contest- one I wish they wouldn't involve me in.

But...you've given me such wonderful advice. I will keep trying and if it doesn't work out I will move on because I am bound to find others I click with eventually. :)
