This. Why do you think Spock/Data/Odo were so popular in Star Trek? Because they had to deal with a society they didn't really feel like they were a part of, and they were constantly misunderstood by others around them. Even those they considered friends!

Tell you a secret, OP: Everyone is like this. It's the human condition. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either fooling you, themselves, or both. Stressing over same was mitigated by age, for me.
