June 11 was a terrible day for celebrity death news this year. :(

I was reading an article about Christopher Lee, and someone mentioned this phenomenon (for lack of a better word) using C.S. Lewis as an example. I had to go look it up - I legitimately had no idea Lewis died the same day JFK was assassinated (Aldous Huxley too, but I'm less familiar with his work). One I was around for was Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson - I heard about Farrah, then went to work and didn't hear about MJ until my shift was almost over. So crazy.

I understand what the OP is saying, but...Dusty especially was a niche celebrity, and believe me, in his world EVERYONE knew about and mourned his passing, I may well have seen more about that than Lee in my corner of the Internet. Not overshadowed, just...in a slightly different place.

I feel so bad for all those NXT kids, their tributes were so affecting.

But you do hear a little about the ones that die in strange or sensationalistic ways, like Katherine Chappell (American visual effects editor for Game of Thrones, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Godzilla), who died in a lion attack and country music singer Randy Howard, who was killed in a shootout at his home with a bounty hunter trying to detain him on a DUI charge.
