Good news/bad news

When people come up to you and say "I've got some good news and some bad news," which do you ask for first and why?

Good news because if the bad news is bad enough, no amount of good news will make it better. So I at least want a moment of uneasy happiness.

I don't care

bad news, because if someone asks that, the two are probably related somehow. That's how it usually is at work anyway. I want to hear what went wrong first so I can start working on fixing it if I can, then if the good news is what's been done already to ameliorate the problem, I can factor that in

I don't think anybody's ever given me the choice, they just straight up go 'So the good news is...' so I'm not sure, but I'd probably go with bad news first because at least it's usually safe to joke about good news and not always about bad news, and I like to end on a light note.

Bad news first, always. I hate not knowing.

The bad news, so we can get the inevitable joke about there being no good news out of the way right at the start.

When people ask that, I've found they often already have an order in their heads that they prefer. So I let them choose.

I normally say, "Just give me the news." I don't care what order it comes in. I just want to know without the cliche to prepare me.

Bad news, because I don't like getting hopeful over nothing.

Always bad news first.
