How does one motivate themselves to get up early in the morning to work out? I've tried everything I can think of (rewards, going to bed early, setting 3 alarms, etc).

Have you tried hiring a gangster to beat you up if you don't get up?

Where do you live? I mean, I'll need your actual address, I'm sure I can manage something.

NAYRT - I know you're obviously kidding, but I just had the hilarious thought of someone giving the gangster the address of a police station...

If the trouble is waking up, maybe try sleeping over with a friend who can wake you up early and do exercises with them a few times? I started waking up at 4-5am when I was 15 or 16 to read f!s (yes, seriously). It was hard to make myself get up at first, but going on f!s was so rewarding that it became really easy over time. So if you get a taste of how rewarding it is to wake up early to work out, you might find it comes more naturally to you as you continue.

Pack everything the night beforehand, not just your gym bag, but your work bed and lunch if possible. That's the only way I can do it, since it lets me sleep in a little more.

Being accountable to something or someone helps

Keep a journal and check in every day and reward yourself with something small if you get the whole week

Or grab a friend and check in with each other

You just have to do it, lol. I'm not especially fond of working out and I will freely admit there are days when I just say fuck it, but for the most part I just make myself do it. I get up, get my workout clothes on and tell myself I'll do at least 15 minutes and then in 15 minutes, of course, I say well I've already done 15 minutes, might as well go for it. That being said, I do feel better after a good workout and I know I have benefited from the exercise in many ways. That's pretty much how I get motivated, I suppose...plus I like to eat and drink and I can't really do that without exercise.

Drink a ton of water before you go to bed, so that your bladder wakes you up. If you are a guy then make a point of sitting down to pee rather than standing up. Then walk into the kitchen and sitting room, after you've pee'd and stand in the middle of each room for a solid ten count. before going back to bed. It'll take a week or so, but eventually your body will stop feeling like it needs to go back to sleep and you'll just get restless if you try to go back to bed.

Can you do it in the evening instead? Get a workout buddy, if possible.

You just do it. Preferably without dwelling on it very much. Get everything ready to go the night before, set the alarm, get a good night's sleep. Then when the alarm rings, it's a race to get all your shit and get to the gym. Don't think about it at all if you can help it, it's just routine, like going to the bathroom or brushing your teeth.

If you lack the self discipline to get up in the morning, consider doing your workout at another time in the day when you're more awake. But I should warn you, exercising regularly is going to take self discipline no matter how you do it, so it's really best to conquer that obstacle upfront.

Start off small. Like 5 reps of one thing and build up from there. That way you get in the habit of doing something even if it isn't a whole lot of exercise.
