Let me rephrase-- I have no interest in watching a Ghostbusters film in which the original Ghostbusters don't exist.

That's fine, but I'm still curious as to why.

Is it a situation where a particularly large part of your enjoyment is tied to the relationships and lives of those specific characters? Like, they're just your favs?

That's it exactly. I like the four original characters. I grew up watching the cartoon and I read all the comic books. I got to know those four individuals, and I'm attached to them. Obviously, they're never going to make another movie about them, but to write them out of existence doesn't sit well with me.

I had no idea this was such an unusual position to take.

Nah, it's mostly just Internet debate bullshit that leads people to be skeptical of any argument that looks like the RUINED MY CHILDHOOD trope.

I do think, in general, it probably makes more sense to treat the two as relatively separate.

I'm not saying that you said that (and I'm not trying to be aggro here). I was trying to explain that people tend to be overly skeptical towards arguments that look like that.

I'm the same way, anon. The original Ghostbusters were my childhood, and while I'd be down with a reboot movie with new actors playing the old characters, I'm not interested in something that basically replaces them with brand new characters because to me it's the characters that make Ghostbusters appealing.

well, this particular fandom I'm not crossing this movie off, but I can say the star trek reboot made me drop for that reason. Though that one was a more agressive in-movie retcon that just made me think "aw fuck you guys"
