Nobody owes anyone anything. You don't owe anyone fics. They don't owe you comments.

But the moment you stop writing because it's fun and start writing for comments, you might as well stop writing altogether.

If not getting comments makes you lose confidence and lose the will to write... well, maybe you should stop? It could be that people are lazy and don't want to comment, or it could be that people actually don't enjoy your writing. You could always try to find some sort of community where you can get some honest feedback, and then you can decide wether you want to keep writing or not.

Also remember that tumblr has made people stop leaving comments. If they have to do more than push a button, they can't be arsed to do it.

Comments were rare long before Tumblr got big.

Not if you wrote fics that people liked.

Lol no.

So what about the fics with hundreds of comments?

Learn to write things people like or learn to advertise yourself and make people like you if you want comments.

I'm... I'm not the "readers are ungrateful brats"!anon. Just a passerby who remembers people constantly wanking about not getting comments long before Tumblr was a twinkle in David Karp's eye.

Okay. But those two points were true back then as well - if you don't write fics people like or you don't advertise yourself and become popular, you get few or no comments.

There's also such a thing as writers who think they deserve comments and complain if they get less than ten comments on a one shot fic.

As to why this rant is still being directed at me, yes.

If you're not careful, I'll rant at you some more.
