Kinda meh about Fallout 4 after the Reveal/Gameplay preview

I'm mostly kinda vaguely irritated that, apparently, you get forced into a heteosexual relationship with a child in Fallout 4. I'm not saying they should have chosen a gay couple (obviously not, considering it's the 50s) but what's so terribly hard about keeping it neutral? They kept going on and on about how individual character creation was so very important to them and then they go and make you play as a straight person. Sure, could be bisexual, but that's not the point.
I think it's a pretty huge step back from the old games. Why was the marriage possible? Not being openly gay in the 50s is completely logical, but that's exactly what the "Confirmed Bachelor" thing was useful for. And adding the child just seriously limits the suspension of disbelief (I know, I know, plenty gay people married and had children back then, but this is not a historical documentary, this is an RPG with a bid emphasis on individual player decisions.).

While I'm SUPER excited for this game I know how you feel. It is a bit of a bummer, but at the same time I feel like Bethesda knows what their fanbase cares about, and even if your character is married with a kid at the start of the game you'll be given an option to explore your feelings regarding that later. (Maybe, like you said, you'll be able to say you're gay but went through with the marriage for whatever reason, or maybe you'll be able to state you're bi, idk.)

Seeing as they said we have more control over our character than ever, there must be an option to add a twist.

That's what I'm hoping, anyway.

Maybe you can choose an option that insinuates that you're in a, uh, "lavender" marriage was the word for it, I think. I.e. you have a beard/merkin.
