I think you're giving yourself way too much credit here. Unless he's been living under a rock with no internet access and sending his comics to a third party via courier eagle to post on his behalf, there is no way he hasn't heard many, many honest criticisms of his work. It doesn't matter how many diehard fans you have, if you're a creator with even a little bit of exposure to the media, you'll hear from people who don't like your stuff and have no problem detailing at length why they feel that way. It's actually a teensy bit arrogant to think that your specific feedback made such a difference, if that assuages your conscience at all.

This. I can tell you that many a person on the P&A/QUILTBAG forum had criticisms of one sort or another while both comics ran. Sometimes even from me. :) You're hardly the first person ever to give T your honest opinion.

Again, doubtful. Not the first con Campbell's gone to, either.

Somehow (judging from sites like the Badwebcomics Wiki and tumblrs like shittywebcomics, among other hoves) there's this widespread idea that webcartoonists live in some sort of bubble that magically insulates them from any feedback other than fawning adulation, and that therefore "someone must tell The Truth" once and for all.

I've no problem with people not liking this or that webcomic, but thinking they're the Only Sane Person in a world of mindless suck-up readers? That's bullshit.
