One of the problems I've found is that the asexual headcanons that I personally have come across are from other demographics. I'm not saying that they shouldn't try their hand at writing asexuality (it's fantastic that they do, visibility is great) but even though the writers are well meaning it often comes off as pandering due to an over-extended focus, probably in no small part due to today's social justice climate. The fic produced revolves so much around asexuality that they're all a little trite (and ace writers aren't exempt from that one; bad writing happens to everyone).

Truth. My asexuality is just a sidenote in my life.

Granted, I don't really read shipping fic, and if I do, it's not really smutfic, so I couldn't give a damn either way.

Varys and Daryl Dixon are about the only canonically asexual characters I know of, and being asexual doesn't mean you wouldn't want to be in a relationship with anyone.

I thought Daryl was rumored/speculated to be asexual (along with some people thinking he was gay), but then they finally said he was straight?

That's a good point. I've seen fics from authors who aren't asexual and it kind of comes across a little preachy/after school special-esque.
