I was thinking about sneaking in a baggie of popcorn and then buying soda. I always end up coming home with a half bag left over anyway, so starting smaller might not be a bad thing.

That works too. If I have my backpack along, I'll sometimes sneak food in. If it is just my purse, though, only a soda will fit.
