But isn't it helpful to know that there ARE people out there that think it's okay to fuck up? And that there might even people who come to OP's defense in that regard? I've seen encouragement as simple as that work in the past. Some people just need to know there is an audience out there that will be willing to read their work.

And no one knows if OP is going to get called out in any case, Op may be scared of that, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. As much as tumblr loves a pile on, there are tons of things that go past fandoms radar all the time, especially if said piece really isn't massively offensive but has one or two things that could have been done better.

Mostly, that's not what I (were I someone who felt that way - I'm personally not, but I know people who are) would have gotten from zir comment, and obviously not what I did: what I got was "you SHOULD do this even though people are going to attack you because diversity!"

In other words, an urging to go out and make yourself vulnerable to attack, rather than any kind of solidarity/reassurance. Which also goes around circles concerned with diversity in fiction, quite a lot.
